Former Fugitive Pleads Guilty in Florida Multimillion-Dollar Health Care Fraud Scheme

A Cuban national who fled the United States and had been wanted since 2013 on federal criminal charges relating to a multimillion-dollar health care fraud scheme in the greater Tampa Bay, Florida, area pleaded guilty today for his role in the scheme.  

Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division; U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley III of the Middle District of Florida; Special Agent in Charge Paul Wysopal of the FBI’s Tampa, Florida, Field Office, Special Agent in Charge George Piro of the FBI’s Miami Field Office; and Special Agent in Charge Shimon Richmond of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) Miami Regional Office made the announcement.

Ubert Guillermo Rodriguez, aka Ubert Guillermo Rodriguez Sigler, 47, pleaded guilty in federal court in Tampa today to conspiracy to commit health care fraud.  Rodriguez was arrested on the health care fraud charges when he arrived at Miami International Airport on a flight from Cuba in October 2015.

According to documents filed in the case, Rodriguez was the president and owner of G.R. Services Equipment & Supplies Inc., a Largo, Florida, company that purported to provide durable medical equipment to Medicare beneficiaries.  From May 2013 through July 2013, Rodriguez’s company submitted approximately $2,579,695 in false and fraudulent claims to Medicare seeking reimbursement for durable medical equipment, such as wound care supplies, that was not legitimately prescribed by doctors and was not provided to beneficiaries.  For example, Rodriguez’s company sought reimbursement for thousands of dollars of negative pressure wound therapy electrical pumps and sterile collagen dressings purportedly provided in May and June 2013 to Medicare beneficiaries.  Federal law enforcement agents previously executed a seizure warrant on Rodriguez’s company’s bank account, resulting in the seizure of approximately $243,339 in proceeds of the health care fraud scheme.

HHS-OIG and the FBI are investigating the case, which and was brought as part of the Medicare Fraud Strike Force, under the supervision of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Florida.  Senior Trial Attorney Christopher J. Hunter of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section is prosecuting the case.

Since its inception in March 2007, the Medicare Fraud Strike Force, now operating in nine cities across the country, has charged nearly 2,000 defendants who have collectively billed the Medicare program for more than $6 billion.  In addition, the HHS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, working in conjunction with the HHS-OIG, are taking steps to increase accountability and decrease the presence of fraudulent providers.

Murder Trial Walk Away Arrested

Suspect Facing Murder Charge Captured

 LSFTF LogoSan Antonio, TX - Jose Gutierrez, 33, was arrested this morning by members of the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF), in San Antonio, TX. An arrest warrant was issued pursuant to an investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), where it is alleged that Gutierrez violated the conditions of his pretrial release.

On August 27, 2015, LSFTF officers initiated an investigation in locating and apprehending Gutierrez. Through extensive investigative efforts, task force officers determined that Gutierrez was hiding out in a house on the west side of San Antonio. This morning, task force officers entered the house, identified themselves, made contact with Gutierrez, and took him into custody without incident.

On August 25, 2015, Gutierrez was present to begin trial at the Bexar County 175th District Court to face a murder charge that stemmed back to 2013. He had previously been released on bond with electronic ankle monitoring. Reports stated that Gutierrez requested and was allowed to briefly leave the courtroom before jury selection began. Gutierrez allegedly exited the courtroom and never returned. His electronic ankle monitor had been cut off and was later found at a McDonald’s Restaurant located on the east side of San Antonio. A warrant was immediately issued for Gutierrez’s arrest and he remained a fugitive at large until his arrest this morning.

Gutierrez is currently being held in custody at the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, stated, “Gutierrez thought he could just walk away and never be held accountable for the crimes he committed, but due to the diligent work of our task force officers, Gutierrez will finally see his day in court.”

Georgia Escapee on the Run for Almost 34 Years Captured

Lauderdale Lakes, FL - Willie Lee Austin was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force Wednesday after escaping from the Central State Correctional Institute on Dec. 27, 1981. Austin was serving a 15-year sentence for Armed Robbery after being convicted in Muscogee County, Georgia.

Georgia Department of Corrections Investigators assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) recently conducted a comprehensive investigation into the fugitive case and eventually uncovered a possible alias identity for Austin. Investigators then discovered an  address in Lauderdale Lakes, which was linked to the alias identity. Members of the U.S. Marshals Florida Caribbean Fugitive Task Force acted upon this information and took Austin into custody without incident.

Since its inception in 2003, investigations carried out by the SERFTF have resulted in the apprehension
of more than 20,000 violent fugitives in the state of Georgia. Of these arrests, more than 1,100 were fugitives wanted for homicide. The successful initiative is led by the U.S. Marshals Service and combines federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. The SERFTF has offices in Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah that cover the entire state of Georgia. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, gang members, sex offenders, and other felonies.

U.S. Marshals '15 Most Wanted' Fugitive Found in Island Paradise

Alleged murder suspect J’Wa Charlery hiding in remote area of British Virgin Islands

Washington – An island paradise proved to be the final destination for 15 Most Wanted fugitive J’Wa Charlery when the Royal Virgin Island Police Force (RVIPF) located and arrested him Thursday at approximately 6 a.m. in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

“The capture of this dangerous individual should send a strong message to criminals here in the United States that you will not be successful crossing global boundaries to avoid prosecution,” said U.S. Marshals Service Director Stacia Hylton. “We worked tirelessly with our international and domestic law enforcement partners to ensure Charlery faced justice. I want to commend the dedicated men and women who spent countless hours investigating this case and tracking down leads, which ultimately lead to this successful arrest.”

Charlery is wanted by the Richmond (Virginia) Police Department for allegedly murdering Eboniece Escobar on Nov. 2, 2014, in a Richmond hotel. The following day, the U.S. Marshals joined the fugitive investigation for Charlery at the request of local authorities; they added him to the 15 Most Wanted list on July 2, 2015.

The fugitive investigation gained momentum when the U.S. Marshals and the Richmond Police Department developed information that Charlery fled to the British Virgin Islands. With credible investigative leads from law enforcement partners, RVIPF converged on a remote location on the island of Tortola, and found Charley standing outside of a tent, where they took him into custody without incident. A subsequent search of Charley’s hideout yielded a large amount of cash and two loaded handguns.

“The arrest of J’Wa Charlery is a testament to the strength of our cooperative law enforcement relationships both here and abroad,” said Robert Mathieson, U.S. Marshal of the Eastern District of Virginia. “In regard to his capture, our combined efforts in this case proved that it was not a matter of if but when. Time was always on our side.”

Charlery is currently being held by RVIPF authorities in Tortola.

Fugitive's 16 Year Run Comes to an End in Mexico

Sioux City, IA – Mitchell Meyer, a fugitive who fled the United States after failing to appear for trial in 1999, was arrested June 29th, 2015 by Mexican Federal Police and Immigration Agents in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Mexico City, Mexico Foreign Field Office, and the Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force in Sioux City, Iowa. Meyer was detained by Mexican authorities and expelled from Mexico. After being expelled, Meyer was arrested by U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Texas, where he is being held pending transportation back to Sioux City, Iowa.

Mitchell Meyer was arrested by the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa in February 1998 on 2 counts of sexual abuse of a minor. Meyer was released on bond and scheduled for trial on May 25, 1999; Meyer never appeared for trial.

In 2005 the United States Marshal Service Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force adopted the case and began searching for the whereabouts of Meyer. Unfortunately family members were uncooperative, and the only promising lead was that Meyer was in Mexico. In 2014, Deputy Marshal Dave Hubbell put a fresh set of eyes on the case and began to search for new leads. In May of 2015 Hubbell featured Meyer on Siouxland’s Most Wanted; a collaborative effort with KPTH Fox 44 and KMEG television stations. The tips began to roll in; many were simply old news, however one particular tip put Meyer in El Mezquitillo Mexico and ultimately led to the arrest of Meyer by Mexican Authorities.

United States Marshal Kenneth Runde offered praise for Deputy Hubbell’s efforts, stating; “Hubbell’s tenacity and sheer determination is reflective of the dedication and commitment to the community that the United States Marshal Service exhibits every day enforcing the laws of the United States”.

A "DANGEROUS DOZEN" FUGITIVE CAUGHT IN CLEVELAND VIA TIP

U.S. Marshals Capture "Dangerous Dozen" Fugitive Hiding in East Cleveland
Cleveland, OH – Earlier today, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) apprehended fugitive Raymell Easter, age 19, at an apartment on Nelacrest Rd. in East Cleveland. Easter was wanted by the Cleveland Police Department for homicide stemming from an incident in March 2015 near E. 106th St. and Ashbury Ave. in Cleveland, in which he is suspected of shooting and killing a 17 year old male after attempting to rob the victim.

The NOVFTF was referred the fugitive investigation and began searching for Easter immediately. The NOVFTF added Easter to the most wanted “Dangerous Dozen” list in April and also profiled Easter as a “Fugitive of the Week” in local media.

Within the last two weeks, the NOVFTF received a tip that ultimately led them to East Cleveland where the team was able to locate and safely apprehend Easter today. Easter was transported to the Cleveland City Jail after arrest.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Our task force has been relentless on these dangerous fugitive cases. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners and do all that we can to bring justice to the victims of these horrendous crimes.”

The United States Marshals Service Cold Case Unit Closes Case from 1972
Cleveland, OH – United States Marshal Pete Elliott and Adult Parole Director Todd Ishee announce the closure of one of Ohio’s oldest warrants.

In 1967, Perry Greathouse, was charged with 1st degree Murder and convicted of manslaughter in the beating and strangulation death of his 3 year old step-daughter in Hartville, OH. Greathouse was sentenced to 1-20 years on January 25, 1967 and was released on parole on January 11, 1972. After his release, Greathouse quickly fled the state and lived a life on the run under a new alias.

The investigation identified that Greathouse’s life on the run began when he changed his name to Gerald Kelly. Gerald Kelly’s life included arrests in Atlantic City, NJ in 1974 and 1976 for sex offenses, in 1983 in Norfolk, VA for misdemeanor concealment and repeated arrests from 1986 until 1989 for crimes such as intoxication, theft, battery and arson while being homeless in Baltimore, Maryland.

Investigators found that Perry Greathouse became sick in 1990 and his days ended in a nursing home in 1990 in Baltimore, MD.

U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott explained that “this is another example of thorough police work and great team work!” With the assistance of the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Ohio Adult Parole Authority “we were able to close one of our states oldest warrants.”

Pastor, Alleged Sexual Predator on Marshals' 15 Most Wanted List Captured
After only three months on the U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted fugitive list, self-proclaimed pastor and accused sexual predator Victor Arden Barnard was arrested Friday, February 27, in Pipa, Brazil. Barnard, 53, is wanted by the Pine County Sheriff’s Office in Pine City, Minnesota, for 59 felony counts of criminal sexual assault stemming from allegations that he sexually abused young girls while acting as their pastor. The U.S. Marshals joined the manhunt for Barnard in April 2014.

The manhunt for Barnard gained momentum when U.S. Marshals developed significant information leading them to believe he was either in Brazil or receiving assistance from his followers there. After a lengthy and thorough investigation, Barnard was located and arrested by Brazilian law enforcement authorities.

The efforts of the Pine County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Department of Justice, Office of International Affairs, the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, Interpol Washington, and U.S. Marshals Service all contributed to the successful arrest of Barnard.

Barnard is being held in Brazil pending extradition back to the U.S.

Greensboro U.S. Marshals End Suspect's Two and a Half Year Run From Justice

Greensboro, NC –  This morning at 06:00 AM, Javier Antonio Benitez-Fuentes, a 37 year old, Hispanic Male, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force (JFTF), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Greensboro Police Department. Benitez-Fuentes was wanted by the Greensboro Police Department for First Degree Sex Offense with a Child (two counts). Benitez-Fuentes had been on the run for approximately two and a half years.

The case began to progress after new information was received through a crime stoppers tip. Investigators were told that Benitez-Fuentes was living at 111 Concord Street under the alias of “Jose Benitez”. Investigators corroborated this information and set up surveillance. JFTF surrounded the residence and knocked on the door, the suspect refused to open the door. JFTF forced entry into the residence and located Benitez-Fuentes and detained him until further investigation. Benitez-Fuentes gave the officers’ an identification card in the name of “Jose Benitez”. The ICE agent on the scene finger-printed Benitez-Fuentes to confirm his identity and the print came back positive for Javier Antonio Benitez-Fuentes. Benitez-Fuentes was arrested without further incident and was transported to the Guilford County Detention Center where he was given a $100,000 bond.

U.S. Marshals Arrest Cedar Rapids Most Wanted in Chicago

Cedar Rapids, IA - U.S. Marshals arrested a Cedar Rapids man in Chicago today wanted on charges related to burglary and trafficking stolen firearms.

Brandon Robertson,19, failed to appear for sentencing in October 2014. Following the incident, the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force (NIFTF) was requested to assist in the hunt for Robertson.

In January, the NIFTF partnered with Lamar Outdoor Advertising, to make the public aware of Robertson's fugitive status. Shortly after Lamar Outdoor Advertising published Robertson's "Most Wanted" status on digital billboards throughout eastern Iowa, the public quickly responded with phone calls coming in to the local US Marshals Fugitive Tipline.

NIFTF members narrowed the search for Robertson to a residence in the vicinity of the 4100 block of South Prairie Avenue in Chicago. NIFTF members coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force along with members of the Chicago Police Department to apprehend Robertson. Robertson quickly surrendered to the Marshals, and was taken into custody without incident.
The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations.

Nationwide, 60 local task forces are dedicated to violent crime reduction by locating and apprehending wanted criminals. These task forces also serve as the central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. The Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from the US Marshals Service, the Linn County Sheriff’s office, Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.

Murder Suspect Finally in U.S. Custody After Nearly a Decade on the Run

Allegedly bludgeoned victim and left body in NM desert

Dona Ana, NM – After nearly a decade on the run, murder suspect Eduardo Estrada-Garcia is finally back on U.S. soil to face his charges. The U.S. Marshals Service South West Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) task force took custody of Estrada-Garcia on Thursday, January 22, after he was extradited from Mexico.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department in New Mexico wanted Estrada-Garcia for allegedly murdering Emely Ianni- Howard. On June 6, 2006, Estrada-Garcia allegedly bludgeoned Howard to death and left her body in the Chaparral Desert.

During the fugitive investigation for Estrada-Garcia, the U.S. Marshals worked closely with the Border Violence Division of the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office to develop information regarding his possible whereabouts, which ultimately led to his apprehension in Mexico in June 2014.

“While Estrada-Garcia evaded capture for nearly a decade, this case is a testament to the vehement dedication of the U.S. Marshals in the District of New Mexico and our many law enforcement partners who were resolute in their commitment to bring this fugitive to justice,” said Conrad Candelaria, U.S. Marshal for the District of New Mexico.

“I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and legal diligence of the Border Violence Division of the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office and the Office of International Affairs of the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, which navigated and facilitated the complex extradition process so that this fugitive could be returned to New Mexico and be held accountable for the horrific crimes allegedly committed.”

FUGITIVE APPREHENDED WHO STOLE FROM DOUGHNUT SHOP LOCATED ACROSS FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT

 CONCORD, N.H. – Yesterday evening, Fugitive of the Week, Christopher Stevens was arrested in Somersworth, N.H.  Stevens, 23, last known to live in Laconia, N.H., and wanted on an outstanding probation warrant issued out of Belknap County.  Stevens was on probation for a 2013 conviction and sentence for intimidation (stalking) and criminal threatening.  On this past Monday, Stevens was also identified as the person that allegedly stole $6,000 from Dunkin’ Donuts across the street from the Bedford Police Department.  During this robbery, Stevens allegedly brandished a handgun in the parking lot and approached an employee on her way to the bank to make a deposit.  Stevens was aided in this robbery by his wife Sara Stevens who was identified by witnesses as the getaway driver.

As part of the U.S. Marshals fugitive investigation, Stevens was featured as the “Fugitive of the Week” on September 4th.  The “Fugitive of the Week” is broadcast on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s Daily Democrat and is prominently featured on the internet.  The “Fugitive of the Week” has been a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and arrest of numerous fugitives since its implementation in 2007.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force received numerous tips regarding the whereabouts of Stevens, since he was featured as the “Fugitive of the Week” on September 4th.  These tips led investigators to several areas across southern N.H.   On Wednesday, members of the Fugitive Task Force were able to locate and arrest, Sara Stevens in Laconia, along with the getaway vehicle used in Monday’s robbery of the Dunkin’ Donuts in Bedford.  Sara Stevens, age 26, was arrested on a warrant issued by the Bedford Police Department for Accomplice to Armed Robbery.  After Sara’s arrest, the fugitive investigation of Christopher Stevens intensified.  These efforts paid off yesterday, when information was developed that Christopher Stevens was in hiding in an apartment on Highland Street in Somersworth, N.H.    Several members of the task force went to the suspected location.  At this residence, once Stevens was aware of the task force’s presence, he looked out the window to see if he could flee.  Stevens quickly realized his only option was to surrender and open the door, where he was arrested without further incident.  Stevens was brought to the Bedford Police Department for processing on the warrant for armed robbery and will be held at the Hillsborough County Jail pending his initial court appearance later today.  Once Stevens has resolved his case in Hillsborough County, he will be turned over to the Belknap County Sheriff’s Office to answer to his outstanding probation violation warrant.  This lengthy investigation and arrest was a large undertaking by the U.S. Marshal’s - N.H. Joint Fugitive Task Force, and involved numerous Task Force members from the Belknap, Hillsborough, Rockingham, and Strafford County Sheriff’s Offices, Deputy U.S. Marshals, with additional assistance from the Bedford, Laconia, Manchester & Greenfield Police Department.

Additionally, this week’s Fugitive of the Week, Alex Ortiz, Sr., was located in the Hillsborough County Jail.  Ortiz was being sought by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant alleging multiple charges including; criminal threatening, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon (vehicle), simple assault X5, and endangering the welfare of a child. These warrants stemmed from an incident that had occurred in Rockingham County in February, 2014, during which Ortiz is alleged to have threatened to harm/kill, physically assaulted and endangered multiple people (including children) while driving a car.  After seeing that Ortiz was featured as this week’s Fugitive of the Week, the Hillsborough County Jail notified the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office that Ortiz was currently in custody at the Hillsborough County Jail on unrelated charges.  Once Ortiz’s criminal matters in Hillsborough County have been resolved, he will be turned over to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office on these other very serious allegations.

Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 5,801 arrests (Updated as of 08/13/2014).  These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses.  Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 7 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.

San Francisco, CA - Carlos Alberto Cervantes, 39, was arrested by The U.S. Marshals Service along with Mexican Authorities in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Cervantes is wanted by the Oakland police Department for two counts of homicide from 2001.

In August of 2001, Mr. Cervantes allegedly got into a dispute with two individuals over a car stereo, which Mr. Cervantes was hired to install. The two individuals then reportedly suspected Mr. Cervantes of joyriding in the vehicle and demanded their money returned. During the course of Mr. Cervantes returning the money, he is accused of shooting both individuals in the head.

Oakland Police began searching for Mr. Cervantes and ultimately, due to their close professional relationship, began working the case with the U.S. Marshals Service led Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force. The team of investigators had ascertained that Mr. Cervantes had fled to the Guadalajara region of Mexico. U.S. Marshals in Mexico, working alongside Mexican law enforcement officials, spotted Mr. Cervantes walking out of a residence. Investigators established that Mr. Cervantes is a United States citizen, and, based upon the outstanding arrest warrants, petitioned the Mexican government to deport him back to the USA. Armed with the deportation order based on the homicide warrants, law enforcement effectuated his arrest without incident. Mr. Cervantes was flown into the United States and is now being housed at the Los Angeles County Jail.

Don O’ Keefe, the U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of California, stated: “The U.S. Marshals Service along with their partners, both domestically and internationally, will always strive to collaboratively bring fugitives to justice, no matter where they may try to hide”.

Oakland Police Chief Sean Whent stated, “This is an excellent example of law enforcement collaboration. Human life is our top priority. We are tenacious. Our perseverance in this case should send this message to criminals: we never give up.”

The Northern California Fugitive Task Force is a division of the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force and is part of a network of U.S. Marshals task forces across the country.

TEXAS FUGITIVE ARRESTED IN OHIO

Fugitive from Jacksonville, TX Arrested in Ohio

Tyler, TX – Kevin Ray Morris, 49, of Jacksonville, Texas was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Cleveland, Ohio. Morris has been wanted since October 2013 on sexual offense warrants out of Jacksonville.

The Tyler division of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force adopted this fugitive investigation last week. Deputy Marshals from East Texas developed information indicating Morris left the East Texas area and was living in Orwell, Ohio. The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Task Force in Ohio was contacted and they developed a plan to arrest Morris at his residence.

Morris attempted to evade arrest by riding an ATV into a heavily wooded area, but was quickly apprehended. Morris is now waiting to be extradited back to East Texas to face his charges.

The agencies of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force (Tyler Division) that assisted in this investigation include the Tyler Police Department, Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Office of the Inspector General, Smith County District Attorney’s Office, and the USMS.

The primary mission of the Task Force is to arrest violent offenders and sexual predators. In 2013, the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force cleared 2,441 cases throughout the Eastern District of Texas.

FBI OFFERS REWARD FOR INFORMATION REGARDING AN ALLEGED DOMESTIC COMMUNIST TERRORIST

Mollie Halpern: The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of alleged domestic terrorist Donna Joan Borup.

Christos G. Sinos: Borup may be living on the run, but the FBI will not stop looking for her.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau, and this is Wanted by the FBI. Donna Borup was participating in a demonstration at JFK International Airport in Queens in September 1981 when….

Sinos: She became violent by tossing a caustic substance into the eyes of a Port Authority police officer who was on duty at the time.

Halpern: That was Supervisory Special Agent Christos Sinos, who also says the officer was left partially blinded. At the time of the incident, Borup was a member of the May 19th Communist Organization—a Marxist-Lenist group advocating the armed revolution and overthrow of the United States government.

Borup, a New Jersey native, has ties to the Garden State and Pennsylvania. She uses several aliases and dates of birth. She is highly intelligent and may have a photographic memory.

Sinos: It may be 32 years later, but the police officer deserves justice.

MARSHALS TASK FORCE CAPTURES KIDNAPPER OF 13 YEAR OLD GIRL

U.S. Marshals Task Force Nabs Fugitive Wanted in Kidnapping of 13 Year-Old Girl from Arkansas

Milton, FL – The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force captured a wanted man who is being sought by law enforcement Arkansas for kidnapping a teenage girl who is believed to be his niece. Late Tuesday evening the U.S. Marshals in El Dorado, Arkansas contacted the Marshals Task Force in Pensacola requesting their help in locating fugitive Phillip Thomas Nussey who was believed to have abducted his niece and thought to be heading toward Milton where he has ties. The Marshals in Arkansas advised the Pensacola Marshals to be on the lookout for a 1998 White Ford Crown Victoria, the car reportedly that had been used to abduct the young girl. The Task for was provided with some information on some addresses but were unable to find the car in this area. Task Force Officers then eventually figured out Nussey had a former girlfriend living in Milton; but were still unable to locate Nussey.

Early this evening, a Task Force Officer from Escambia County Sheriff’s Office checked the home of the ex-girlfriend on the 6500 Block of Dogwood Drive and found the Crown Victoria parked outside. Around 11:00 pm, Marshals and Task Force Officers from Santa Rosa, Escambia and Walton County along with a K9 unit from Santa Rosa County converged on the home but no one inside would open the door.

Officers then broke the door open and found Nussey hiding in the bathroom. The 38 year-old Nussey was then arrested without any further problems. The missing girl, along with his ex-girlfriend was found inside unharmed. Nussey faces charges in Arkansas for the abduction, and is allegedly a suspect in sexual molestation cases in both Arkansas and Virginia. Thomas may also face charges in Santa Rosa County for kidnapping, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. He will remain in the Santa Rosa County Jail until he is extradited back to Arkansas. The car was impounded and may be treated as a crime scene.

Last year, U.S. Marshals led task forces arrested more than 123,000 fugitives of which over 86,000 of them were state and local fugitives, nearly 4,000 were homicide suspects and more than 5,000 of them were violent gang members. As well, among that number of arrests more than 12,000 of them were sex offenders.

 Greensboro Task Force Grabs High Point Fugitive

High Point, NC – This morning at 10:00 AM, Jashon Terriese Singleton, a 21 year old, Black male was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force (JFTF) and the High Point Police Department Street Crimes Unit. Singleton was wanted on outstanding warrants for multiple counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, Larceny after Breaking and Entering and Injury to Personal Property by the High Point Police Department.

During the JFTF’s investigation, investigators conducted surveillance in the vicinity of 1209 E. Commerce Avenue in which Singleton was identified as a passenger in a vehicle driven by one of his family members. Members of the JFTF executed a vehicle stop and arrested Singleton. Singleton was transported to the High Point Police Department and was turned over to the lead detective on the case.

FLEEING FUGITIVE CAUGHT WHILE TRYING TO ESCAPE THROUGH WINDOW

St. Albans Fugitive Attempts to Flee When Confronted by U.S. Marshals

Burlington, VT -- The U.S. Marshals Service, Vermont Violent Offender Task Force (VVOTF) arrested a fugitive who was wanted for a Violation of Probation, stemming from an Assault and Robbery with a Weapon conviction in Burlington.

Jeffrey D. Robtoy, 43 of St. Albans, Vermont was arrested April 03, 2013 in St. Albans, Vermont. An arrest warrant was issued for Robtoy in March, 2013 when Robtoy was accused of violating the terms of his probation, alleging that Robtoy was using drugs and failing to report to his probation officer.

As Deputy U.S. Marshals, Vermont State Police and St Albans Police attempted to make contact at Robtoy’s residence, Robtoy attempted to flee out of a rear bedroom window, then retreated back inside the residence after he visually encountered police waiting for him. He was ultimately arrested inside his residence.

Robtoy is no stranger to the law, having been charged and or convicted of various crimes, to include Assault and Robbery with a Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Burglary, Possession of Heroin, Aggravated Domestic Assault and various other crimes. Robtoy will be arraigned in St. Albans District Court today.

The arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative efforts by the U.S. Marshals VVOTF, the Vermont State Police and the St. Albans Police Department.

ALLEGED MURDERER AND FUGITIVE CAUGHT AFTER 6 WEEK INVESTIGATION

Cleveland, OH – U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott announces that the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) has arrested fugitive Nathan Summerfield, age 27, this morning in Wadsworth, OH. Summerfield, who was an Ashland, OH resident, is wanted for the murder of Lynn Jackenheimer, which took place on July 3rd in Dare County (Outer Banks), North Carolina. Summerfield has been on the run since early July and the case has received national media attention to include airings on America’s Most Wanted.
　

In early July, the U.S. Marshal’s office in Greenville, NC received the murder warrant from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and then contacted the NOVFTF to request assistance in the fugitive investigation for Summerfield, as it related to Northern Ohio.
　

The NOVFTF has worked diligently on this investigation over the last 6 weeks, teaming up with the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Ashland Police Department, along with other Task Force partner agencies to follow up on all leads and continue the fugitive investigation within Northern Ohio. Summerfield’s photo was published in local and national media, and also on digital billboards across several states. The NOVFTF received hundreds of tips, all of which were followed up by U.S. Marshals across the nation to include but not limited to Ohio, North Carolina, West Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Illinois.
　

This morning, at approximately 9:30 a.m., all the hard work of the NOVFTF paid off when Summerfield was found hiding within the Northern District of Ohio. Early this morning, the NOVFTF developed information that placed Summerfield at the Legacy Inn & Suites at 810 High Street in Wadsworth, OH. The NOVFTF gathered an arrest team to include Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers from the NOVFTF Richland County Division and NOVFTF Akron Division, as well as officers from the Wadsworth Police Department. The NOVFTF was able to confirm that Summerfield was in a room at the hotel and had checked in yesterday under an alias. Officers made entry into the room and arrested Summerfield without incident. Summerfield was transported to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office to await extradition to North Carolina to face the murder charges.
　

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, "This has been an intensive investigation following a horrible crime. We are extremely relieved and thankful that the time and effort poured into this manhunt has resulted in the safe capture of Nathan Summerfield and this hopefully brings some relief and justice to the family and friends of Lynn Jackenheimer."
