MARSHALS ARREST MURDER SUSPECT

Murder Suspect Arrested
Espanola, NM - Deputies with the United States Marshal Service and Task Force Officers with the Santa Fe Police Department arrested Joel Rollins (48) in Espanola, NM. Rollins was wanted by the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly Murdering Elvis Delaney III in October 2007 and then burying Delaney’s body on his property in Sandoval County.
On May 22, 2012 the arrest warrant for Rollins was signed and information was received by the United States Marshals Service that Rollins was potentially in the Espanola, NM area. Investigators from the New Mexico State Police, Sandoval County Sheriff’s office, Santa Fe Police Department and the United States Marshals Service quickly responded and sent Southwest Fugitive Team (SWIFT) Task Force Deputies and Task Force Officers (TFO’s) to Espanola to investigate Rollins’ whereabouts. Rollins was located at his place of employment on May 23, 2012 by Marshals Service Deputies and TFO’s where he was arrested. Rollins was turned over to the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Department so they could continue their investigation.
United States Marshal Conrad E. Candelaria said “justice is one step closer to prevailing, due to the unyielding and tireless efforts of many law enforcement agencies, partnering with the Marshals Service from state, local and county agencies, this fugitive will now answer to the horrible and unconscionable crime committed”.

New Orleans Man Charged for Alleged Role in Five Murders
WASHINGTON – A New Orleans man was charged today by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Louisiana in a 17-count superseding indictment for his alleged role in five murders, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten in the Eastern District of Louisiana and Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.
The superseding indictment charges Steven Earl Hardrick, 27, with violations of the federal controlled substances act and federal firearms laws, carjacking, witness tampering and murder. The superseding indictment alleges that Hardrick allegedly carried out the Oct. 1, 2007, murder of Dwayne Landry; the Oct. 13, 2007, home invasion, shooting and killing of off-duty New Orleans Police Officer Thelonius Dukes; and the Oct. 24, 2007, carjacking and murder of Brett Jacobs, David Alford and Howard Pickens.
According to the superseding indictment, Hardrick conspired to possess with intent to distribute drugs. He did so by obtaining drugs through force and violence, as well as firearms, which he then used to facilitate the theft or robbery of the drugs. The superseding indictment alleges that Hardrick obtained firearms in all three incidents, and in two of the incidents, he attempted to obtain drugs. The superseding indictment alleges that Howard Pickens was killed in the Oct. 24, 2007, murders to prevent him from reporting information about the carjacking that resulted in the murders of Brett Jacobs and David Alford.
An indictment is merely a charge and a defendant must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The superseding indictment includes offenses with a maximum penalty of death.

ALLEGED SOUTH CAROLINA MURDER SUSPECT APPREHENDED
"Herman Dessausure, 29, was wanted by the Estill, South Carolina Police Department and the Hampton County Sheriff’s Department for a shooting incident in Estill, South Carolina that occurred in the early morning hours of December 30, 2011 that left one man dead and two other wounded. The incident happened at a bar in Estill, South Carolina.
The Estill Police and Hampton County Sheriff’s investigators identified Herman Dessausure as the suspect in the case. On January 2, 2012, they received information that Dessausure was possibly in a motel in the I-95 and Hwy 204 area of Savannah and contacted the U.S. Marshals Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in locating and arresting Dessausure. When it was determined that Dessausure was at the motel, additional assistance was requested from Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Detectives, Patrol, SWAT and K-9.
While the investigators were setting up to make entry into the motel room, a taxi cab pulled into the motel parking lot. Officers stopped the cab and found out that Dessausure had called the cab to come pick him up. Dessausure was seen looking out the room door while waiting for the cab. Officers had the cab driver put in a call to the Dessausure and when Dessausure exited the room, he was immediately subdued by SCMPD Swat officers. Upon a frisk of Dessausure, a 9mm semiautomatic handgun was pulled from his waistband. Dessausure was taken to the Chatham County Jail to await extradition back to Hampton County, South Carolina.
This was an excellent example of inter-agency cooperation not only within Savannah but a neighboring state as well. A dangerous felon has been taken off the street by this arrest.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of over 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined. In 2011, U.S. Marshals led task forces arrested more than 86,000 state and local fugitives, which cleared over 113,000 warrants.
The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices: Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of Georgia. The Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department, and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies."
